Ossicular Chain Defects in Tubotympanic Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media

چکیده
This study was conducted to find out the frequency of ossicular chain pathology in cases of tubotympanic chronic suppurative otitis media. This was prospective study, carried out in the department of otorhinolarymgology, NIMS medical college, Jaipur from Jan 2014 to June 2015. One hundred fifty cases of chronic suppurative otitis media, who underwent surgery, were included and their intraoperative ossicular chain pathology finding noted.150 patients of age group between 10 to 60 years of age were having symptoms of history of discharge and hearing loss. Ossicular involvement was found more commonly in patients with subtotal perforation in comparison to central perforation. In our study we found long process and lenticular process of incus are the most common susptible for erosion and malleo incudal joint more commonly involved by the tympanosclesosis. Melleus was found to be more resistant ossicle.

High-frequency conductive hearing loss as a diagnostic test for incomplete ossicular discontinuity in non-cholesteatomatous chronic suppurative otitis media
Chronic suppurative otitis media, with or without cholesteatoma, may lead to erosion of the ossicles and discontinuity of the ossicular chain. In incomplete ossicular discontinuity (IOD), partial erosion of the ossicles occurs, but some sound transmission is noted throughout the ossicular chain. High-frequency conductive hearing loss (HfCHL) has been considered a hallmark of incomplete ossicula...

This study was conducted to find out the status of the ossicles in cases of chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM). One hundred and fifty cases of CSOM, who underwent surgery, were included and their intra-operative ossicular chain findings noted. Ossicular erosion was found to be much more common in unsafe CSOM than in safe CSOM. Malleus was found to be the most resistant ossicle to erosion w...

Introduction: Although the incidence and prevalence of chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) has been decreased in recent decades, but it is still a major health problem in both developing and developed countries. CSOM can cause major and life-threatening complications such as hearing loss, meningitis and cerebral abscess. Since hearing loss is the most common complication of CSOM, we aimed t...

Background One of the prevailing otologic infections in our country is chronic suppurative otitis media, especially the tubotympanic type for which various treatment protocols are followed. Usually, oral and topical antibiotics (mainly quinolones) are given alone or in combination. There is a lack of consensus as to whether topical drops alone are effective or a combined oral and systemic thera...
